Kiersten Latham — May 3 – 15, 2026

Kiersten Latham will once again be the Red Barn Artist-in-Residence from May 3-15, 2026.

Kiersten is a multidisciplinary artist from Hillsdale, Michigan working in clay, fiber, and found objects, creating assemblages, collages, clayworks, and more. Growing up with an artist father, Kiersten describes herself as a lifelong art appreciator, and more recently, an artist. In 2024 Kiersten was able to make the career transition to work as a full-time artist, and is excitedly expressing her creativity built up over many years.

During her residency, Kiersten plans to push herself beyond her normal artistic practice, and will be open to inspiration from the studio space and artwork in the Red Barn, rather than planning specific pieces to create. Kiersten describes her art as serendipitous in nature as she relies on creative flow and many different 2D and 3D tools and materials to guide her as she completes an art piece.  Among the artwork she hopes to make, Kiersten will be painting backgrounds and creating assemblages, collages, stitching and clayworks. In addition, Kiersten will be searching for treasures at local thrift stores to include in her art. The environment of the Red Barn, and artwork and practice of Lester Raymer, and the creative spirit of Lindsborg all inspire Kiersten in her artmaking.

Visitors to the Red Barn should expect to see what Kiersten terms “organized chaos,” with lots of color, objects, different media, and all the artwork made with joy, vibrancy, and a sense of humor.
