Rodger Gerberding – August 14-30, 2023

Rodger Gerberding from Council Bluffs, IA, will be returning as Artist-in-Residence from August 14th to 30th. With over 40 years of experience as a working artist, he has gained critical acclaim for his work as an artist, writer, and actor. During his residency, Gerberding will draw inspiration from the eccentric and diverse groups of people in Lindsborg. Having visited the area around twenty times, including several as an Artist-in-Residence, he feels a special connection to Lindsborg and hopes to contribute something special to its ambiance. The refreshing experiences he has in Lindsborg also fuel the creative work he does back at his home studio.

Throughout his residency, Gerberding plans to complete several dozen paintings. He loves working with his hands as much as with brushes and other tools, drawing from his memories of wandering around Lindsborg, referring back to mental notes and sketchbook jottings. Some of his work will be finished on-site, while others will undergo revisions when he returns to his studio.

In addition to his residency at the Red Barn Studio Museum, Gerberding intends to exhibit a few collaborative paintings in conjunction with the Dolores Gaston Runbeck Retrospect at the Smoky Valley Arts & Folklife Center in August. He purchased 4-5 roughed-out paintings by Runbeck, which immediately inspired him to blend Runbeck’s abstract expressionism with his own style. “I honored Runbeck’s drawn intentions while adding my own painted elements.”

Join us for an artist reception for Rodger Gerberding  Sunday August 27th from 2 to 4 pm.
