Brian D’Ambrosio, Artist In Residence

January 21, 2020 @ 10:00 am - March 1, 2020 @ 5:00 pm

Author, poet and journalist Brian D’Ambrosio, Helena, Montana, will be the Artist-in-Residence at the Red Barn Studio Museum from January 21 to March 1. He has written more than 10 books and his articles have been published in local, regional and national publications. D’Ambrosio’s writing runs an eclectic gamut from poetry to a look at some of the National Hockey League’s famous fighters. From the Helena Independent Record, about Warriors On the Ice, he says, “I think I just wanted to connect with these guys and share some of their pride and dignity, and let people know the guys that did it and continue to do it may not be doing it for the reasons you expect… And it’s always fun getting into the psyche of who we are, what we do and why we do it.” He has written about forgotten boxers, Montana’s contributions to the NFL, movies shot in Montana (even where film settings are supposed to be elsewhere), and a book about Ryan Ferguson, a man wrongfully imprisoned for a killing in 2003 and released from prison in 2013. D’Ambrosio’s topics have included history, music, architecture, vernacular artists, photography, forgotten inventors, and obscure American poets and authors. Brian will be working on a pair of books during his residency: “Montana Murders: Notorious and Unsolved” (Riverbend Publishing, June 2020) and “Remarkable Women of Kansas: Pioneers, Poets and Politicians” (Arcadia Publishing, 2021). The subjects in the Kansas book will include biographies of figures such as Kate Richards O’Hare, a noted activist imprisoned for opposing World War I and Eva Jessye, an African-American from Coffeyville who received international distinction as a professional choral conductor. D’Ambrosio’s books are available at Amazon and other sources, also videos on Youtube that were made in conjunction with civic and state organizations.
